We woke up to a pleasant morning with Sun playing peek-a-boo with the Clouds and roaring sound of the waves only to be disturbed with occasional crowing of the roosters spread across the Resort. We quickly decided to go to Waimea Canyon and visiting anything that lies along our path.
We took the Train Ride at the supposedly famous Kilohana Plantation. Ramesh, the avid agriculturist, wanted to see the farm and info collected from various websites left him with high expectations. We went through areas which were neatly planted with tropical fruits that gave a feeling of drive around rural India. The star event of the ride was to feed animals - pigs and sheep’s to be exact. I am not very fond of animals so decided to stay put in my seat. After a good 45mins, the tour ended much to my relief.
Off we went to Waimea Canyon, the drive up was pretty good. It was a mildly sunny day where you want to soak up the warmth. We stopped occasionally at view points, captured the beauty through our lens both natural and artificial. Waimea bares a striking contrast to Grand Canyon which is why it’s called “Grand Canyon of the Pacific“. The varied hues of strata interspersed with waterfalls and many shades of brown and green makes it even better than the mighty Grand Canyon. We went to the highest point and were in awe with the beauty of the island. Visiting it over sunrise and sunset might be great in our opinion.
On our way down, we wanted to take the road that led to the farthest end of the island. We drove on potholes, survived a 4mi incredible drive along a trodden path and eventually reached the Barking Sands Beach. It was mostly deserted and we walked to the very end of the beach and relaxed a lot enjoying the sunshine and the gentle breeze. If only we knew that vehicles can be driven on the beach, we would have rented a Jeep but alas?. We had to endure another 4mi along the never ending mud and stone laden path to get to the Highway. It was quite a journey but was totally worth it.
By then it was getting nearer to sunset and we decided to head over to Poipu to get some food. First we headed to Poipu’s Market Place aka Poipu Downtown to get some coffee and then went to watch sunset at Spouting Horn. The drive to Poipu was picture perfect, with miles and miles of greenery that we couldn’t get enough of it. After sunset, we went a little off-track, took detours and ended up seeing great homes and later went back in search of food near our Resort. This time I was craving for some hot soup after noticing that my throat was getting a bit sore and so Thai it was for us. After a satisfying dinner, went back to relax at the Spa. We almost jumped in and made a splash at the Spa that a couple who were there already left a few mins after our very hooligan entry. And so, ended another tiring day
